Think Slim, Issue #016 - Is Losing Weight just Too Hard?October 28, 2005 |
Look great, feel greatHi The clocks go back this weekend in the UK and we gain an hour somewhere between Saturday and Sunday. I think I'll use my extra hour and catch up on some sleep. Somehow I seem to have been burning the candle at too many ends - too much to do, too little time, as they say. I'm sure you know the feeling. There are so many demands for attention in our lives these days, what with work, home, kids, family, friends and fun! If you get an extra hour this weekend due to daylight saving, be sure and spend it on whatever YOU want to do. And if you don't, spend an hour enjoying yourself anyway... Love
P.S. There are quite a few postings on the Think Slim blog this month. See them all at http://smallchange.typepad.com/thinkslim. ContentsFeature Article : Is Losing Weight just Too Hard?Weight Loss Tip : Put some Sparkle in your home Recommendation : Shameless self promotion Feature article : Is Losing Weight just Too Hard?Do you struggle to believe that you'll ever be able to lose weight and keep it off? Sometimes it can seem like you're fighting a losing battle when you work really hard and manage to lose some weight and then it all creeps back on so easily. But losing weight is possible for everyone. It's probably that you just haven't found a way that works for you yet. One thing is clear. If you believe it's "too hard" then you're setting yourself up for failure before you begin. You've probably already heard the quote attributed to Henry Ford "If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right." and he's quite correct - you need to believe you can do this to succeed. Without belief it's hard to be motivated to take action. Why bother if you believe you'll fail? The problem with thinking something is "too hard" is that it's all a bit vague. You can't do anything about "too hard". What does help is to look at what you find most difficult about losing weight and then look for practical solutions to each individual issue. You'll find when you break down the issues one by one there is a workable solution to each of them. Ask yourself ..."What can I do about ..."
and you'll find there IS a solution for each problem. In fact you'll find there are a number of solutions to any weight loss problem if you seek them out, and there's bound to be something that would work for you. By breaking down the "too hard" into "this is what I find difficult" and "these are the possible solutions" you bolster your belief and with it your motivation to succeed. So start thinking about what gets in your way when you're trying to lose weight and seek out the answers. I'm here to help if you get stuck and I'll also be covering the common problems in future newsletters. If you want help now or you want to make sure that I cover your issues then hit reply and let me know. This month's tip : Put some Sparkle in your homeSpend some time every day making a small part of your home really gleam. If you put some elbow grease in, you can really burn those calories (about 120 every 30 minutes for someone weighing 150lbs). Not only will you lose weight and get a little fitter but your home will look like a palace in time for all those family parties during the festive season. Recommendation: Shameless self promotionIf you're interested in losing weight fast, take a look at my 8 week coaching program at the Weight Loss Handbook website.
