Think Slim, Issue #028 - Stick to Your DietNovember 2nd, 2006 |
Look great, feel greatHi It has suddenly turned very chilly here in Scotland and somehow it's now much harder to get out there and be active. If you are feeling reluctant to get outdoors for whatever reason remember that there is no such thing as bad weather only bad clothes. On the other hand there are lots of great home exercise videos too, so no excuses :) Remember, there's still time to get in shape for the party season! Have a great month Love
P.S. There are quite a few postings on the Think Slim blog this month. See them all at http://smallchange.typepad.com/thinkslim. ContentsFeature Article : Stick to Your DietWeight Loss Tip : Use Music Recommendation : 8 Weeks to a New You Feature article : Stick to Your DietI often say that diets don't work but that's not strictly true. It's generally we, the dieters, who do not work, not the diet. No matter what diet you're on, experts agree that actually sticking to it is the most important thing in making it a success. This may be stating the obvious but how many diets have you been on and not stuck to them and declared that they didn't work? Every sensible diet can lead to weight loss but if you don't work the diet then it won't be successful and you won't lose weight or keep it off. You can do the Atkins Diet and it will work ... if you stick to it. You can do the South Beach Diet and it will work... if you stick to it. You can do any diet at all or just eat healthily and reduce your portion sizes and it will work ...if you stick to it. So the important bit is selecting a diet or weight loss program that you are happy to stick to before you begin. Don't just look at the amazing results promised by the blurb on the book or the ad on the internet. Think about what you are really prepared to do. Can you eat (and enjoy) that food for the length of the diet? How practical is it to buy and prepare? How will it fit in with your lifestyle? Will you really do the exercise program for longer than two weeks? And don't just think about the duration of the program and how long it will take you to get to your target weight. You need to work out what you are prepared to stick to until you lose the amount of weight you want but more importantly what you are prepared to stick to for the rest of your life if you don't want the weight to come back. Your current habits got you to the weight you are so it's no good going back to them once you reach your target weight - you will end up right back where you are. So look for a weight loss program that you can embrace for life to stay slim forever. Copyright 2006, Janice Elizabeth Small This month's tip : Use MusicStudies have shown that music with a great beat helps you put more effort into your exercise session without getting tired. So put music on while you walk or jog. Listen to your ipod at the gym. Even putting on music with an upbeat tempo while you clean your house will help you pick up the pace. And great music makes everything you do to keep yourself moving so much more enjoyable.
