Look great, feel greatHi Winter has arrived here in the UK with a fall of snow overnight - very pretty but not so much fun when the car skids about instead of going in the direction you're pointing it. Always terrifies me! It's the only time I'd like one of those gas-guzzling 4-wheel drives rather than my tiny, nip about town, park anywhere Fiat Panda. I hope the weather is better where you are. Feature article : Just One PoundIf you had to lose a pound of weight this week or someone you loved would die could you do it? Of course you could! Your incentive would be big enough that you would achieve your goal no matter what happened. If you had to eat out, it wouldn't matter. You'd quite happily choose lighter dishes and wave away the dessert trolley. If you had to go away on business or vacation, it wouldn't matter. You'd find a way to eat and drink less than you ever have before on a trip. If you had a bad week or a boring week or a completely freaky emotional coaster week, it still wouldn't make any difference at all. You would not be comforting yourself with food that's for sure. You'd meet your goal no matter what happened, wouldn't you? After all it's in your own power to do what it takes. You would eat less. You would get to the gym or you would walk every day. You might even go for a run. You would not sit around on the sofa blaming your genes, your family's eating habits or your poor metabolism. You would not say "I really shouldn't, but go on then, just this once..." You would not dial up for Chinese food or pizza because you couldn't be bothered to think of anything healthy to eat for supper, never mind cook it. So believe me you can lose a pound this week if you want to. And if you can do it for your loved ones, there's no reason why you can't do it for you. Take loving care of your own life, your own health, your own looks, your own energy levels because you are just as precious as the ones you love. And if you do what it takes to care for yourself as much as you would for any of your loved ones, you can achieve that healthy goal weight you want one pound at a time. Copyright 2007, Janice Elizabeth Small This month's tip : Cold WaterA study carried out in Germany in 2003 showed that just drinking cold water regularly every day could raise your metabolism and help you lose weight. Their research showed that two litres of cold water (just over three and a half pints) a day was enough to burn up 4.5kg (about 10lbs) of body fat over a year. It may not be a huge amount but given we are all supposed to be drinking more water anyway for our health, sounds like something worth doing. If you find drinking water not much fun - add a slice of lime or lemon to give it a bit more taste.
