Think Slim, Issue #032 - 7 Tips to Stop Feeling Hungry All the TimeMarch 8th, 2007 |
Look great, feel greatHi I've started training for a 5K charity run over the past few weeks. It has all been very enlightening a) I remembered that I didn't like running in cold weather much and that's why I gave it up very quickly before b) I saw that I could do it anyway even when I didn't like it c) I noticed that if I get to the front door with my exercise gear on that I will actually go out no matter what the weather. I hope you have found an activity that you like enough to actually want to do it.... Have a great March Love

Feature article : 7 Tips to Stop Feeling Hungry All the Time1. Eat More! Don't restrict yourself too much in terms of quantity of food when you are trying to lose weight. Instead, increase the quality. If you replace your normal low fiber foods with foods which have more bulk, such as fruit and vegetables and whole grain carbohydrates - you will feel fuller for longer. 2. Eat Protein and Fat Eat a little lean protein and small amounts of fat with every meal or snack as these tend to make you feel fuller for longer and prevent carbohydrates being digested so quickly. 3. Eat More Frequent Meals Never miss a meal or snack when you're trying to lose weight. If you do, you will feel hungry and uncomfortable and set yourself up for a binge. Five small meals a day is ideal, if you can manage that, as it will prevent you from feeling too hungry and keep your metabolism stoked. 4. Drink Up Never drink your calories when you want to lose weight - alcohol, fruit juice and milky drinks will not fill you up but they contain plenty of calories. Do make sure that you drink plenty of water or herbal tea however because thirst is often mistaken for hunger. 5. Have some Nibbling rations Sometimes you just want to nibble for comfort or because you're bored. Eating when you're emotionally rather than physically hungry is a habit you should be looking to gradually get out of. Start to look for ways you can resolve the source of the problem and/or find other means to give yourself what you need emotionally. Meanwhile, seeing as Rome wasn't built in a day, keep some low-calorie nibbles to hand (and keep junk OUT of the house). Suitable emergency rations are chopped up vegetables, fruit, hard-boiled eggs, small boxes of raisins, dill pickles and cold-cuts. (Not all at once!) 6. Eat Soup Soup is great for filling you up in a satisfying way with very few calories. Make a meal of it or eat as a first course with a much smaller portion than normal to follow. 7. Get Busy The more you're out and about enjoying life or getting involved with something you enjoy (other than food!) the less time you have to sit around thinking how long it is until you can eat something again. And if you're out and about moving your body, so much the better. Look for a new sport or activity to take up to take your mind off food and keep yourself out of the fridge. Copyright 2007, Janice Elizabeth Small This month's tip : Demand Good FoodThere are two nasty substances which are freely added to cheap mass-produced food which give you high-calorie sweetness and processed fat without any benefit. Check the labels and refuse to buy anything where manufacturers patently don't care about your health - just about their profits. The villains? Trans fats (hydrogenated oils and fats) and high fructose corn syrup Recommendation : Do Something Different! Are you on a dieting treadmill, trying out one diet after another and finding they don't live up to their promises?
